After our adventures in the mountains, it was evident that we needed to do laundry. We nibbled a so-so breakfast at the guest house. They let us know that they made their own butter, cheese, and yogurt, but it was hard to choke down because all of it tasted and smelled like sour milk. Getting back to Tbilisi meant a white knuckled ride down a very windy mountain road in a minibus. It was a bit of a shock to our systems going from a chilly remote mountain village in the cloud forest to the hot city of Tbilisi.
Once back in Tbilisi, we settled into our hotel and did some laundry. While our laundry was drying, we walked around the Old City. Without intentionally meaning to see anything in particular, we saw a tons and did much more walking than we had planned. Some of the things we checked out: thermal baths (from the outside), old fortress, Mother of Georgia statue (Queen Tamar), some churches, a mosque, statue of King David IV, botanical gardens, and more.
As far as food goes, I am now wondering if it is possible to have too much gelato in a day. After a yummy lunch with a sweet view and wandering the city, we had some gelato. And then, after dinner, we had more gelato. There are so many delicious flavors that we want to try. However, I think I went a bit too far with the 2nd gelato - I struggled to finish it.
When we got back to our hotel, our laundry was pretty much dry - hooray. So we set to packing up our stuff again. Tomorrow, we will get up early to catch the train to Zugdidi and then a minibus to Mestia. It will take the entire day to get there. When we were struggling in the mountains near Jut'a, some Georgians told us that the mountains near Jut'a are easy compared to Svaneti (where we are heading). So, it sounds like we are about to get our butts kicked by some big mountains.
