After almost 30 hours of traveling, I finally arrived in Tbilisi, Georgia. Surprisingly, everything went smoothly with my travels. The hotel I booked totally hit the spot and I immediately fell asleep for a handful of hours. It felt amazing to be horizontal.
My traveling buddy, Fallon, and I connected at the hotel and caught up on our experiences getting to Georgia. Then we hit the city to do some errands (sim cards, bank, trekking maps, etc).
Georgian people are super friendly and helpful. The city is clean and has lots of parks and green spaces. We walked around different parts of the city and found that the different parts are unique to each other. We figured out how to cross busy roads (underground), that we won't be able to go into many of the churches as neither of us brought a skirt, discovered that the stray dogs and cats and very friendly (I am keeping my distance, but Fallon is getting acquainted with them), strolled through a park with lots artists and their work for sale, checked out a supermarket (bought some fruit roll-up type things and chocolately things for hiking), and observed lots of different architecture (and some engineering solutions that would make Dan's head spin).
The highlight of the day for me was dinner - so delicious! Khinkali is ridiculously tasty, although a bit tricky to eat. There are lots of things that you can get with or without cheese, which Fallon and I both think is silly - why would you ever get not get something with cheese? My mushrooms and Fallon's eggplant both were smothered in cheese. And of course, we wrapped up the evening with gelato (which Fallon shared with the hotel cat, Mingus, which even went a little too far for me).
Tomorrow we are heading to Kazbegi to check out the mountain scene. And you can bet your biscuits that I will be having lots more khinkali on this trip (and may end up 5'x5' by the end).
